Job DescriptionJob Summary Exempt:
No Performs laboratory analysis on clinical specimens using established laboratory procedures; reviews and evaluates quality controls, specimen integrity and instrumentation to ensure that accurate results are reported.

Usual laboratory equipment and instrumentation PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (a):
This job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions.
Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee will occasionally lift boxes and/or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
The employee must demonstrate lifting a 25-pound box from the floor.
POTENTIAL EXPOSURE TO BLOOD & BODY FLUIDS:
Category 1 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
(Requires the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve an inherent potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them.
Protective measures should be used while engaged in Category 1 tasks with exposure potential.
) Job RolesClinical Laboratory Scientist (AHCL) (PD) Accommodates STAT orders consistently reporting within one hour or as soon as available.
Calls all critical values and critical test results to providers within 60 minutes of being available.
Completes all required documentation.
Assists Director of Laboratory Services in ensuring that all lab procedures and safety protocols are followed.
Alerts supervisor when abnormalities or irregularities in the test are encountered while maintaining a workload productivity of at least 90%.
Assists in ensuring that the department is continuously prepared for all regulatory surveys.
Backs up Laboratory Assistants by obtaining venous blood and arterial blood samples as required, following aseptic techniques.
Checks for patient identification by using at least two patient identifiers (patients full name and date of birth) before drawing sample and compares all demographic information to ensure accuracy.
Completes required tests and/or observations of patients specimens, blood samples or other products required for testing; results reflect attention to detail and accuracy.
Follows established policy and procedures when drawing venous and arterial samples.
Allows for adequate time (direct pressure) to ensure hemostasis and calls for assistance if unable to obtain blood sample after two attempts.
Insures validity and accuracy of results by continually checking QC and properly maintaining instruments.
Contacts and follows through with AH Biomedical, vendors and/or customer technical service when mechanical problems occur.
Maintains adequate levels of reagents, calibrators, controls and supplies.
Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
Supervises Laboratory Assistants as needed and supports the Director of Laboratory Services as assigned.
Verifies that appropriate specimen is being analyzed for proper patient and for indicated test comparing against patient test orders.
Completes test order entry accurately.
Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
